Thank you St Hilary’s for your help with the 2018 Food Drive!
This year we had our biggest collection ever, by a significant margin: 43,000 items of food collected (compared with 34,000 last year). The Saturday Supermarket collection was particularly successful. We collected approximately 800 full bags at the Supermarkets (compared with less than 300 last year).
The collection has now been distributed to our Agency partners, who have all been so thankful for (and a little overwhelmed by!) the volume of food they’ve received. This year we distributed food to CamCare, The Salvation Army in Camberwell, Mission House Fitzroy, The Richmond Food Centre, and DonCare. The food will now be given directly to those in need, and because of the size of the collection, we will be helping well over the 6000 individuals and families we were able to support last year. Praise God!
It takes a massive amount of volunteer help to make the Drive happen, and there are so many people I would like to thank for their time and effort. To our Connect Groups, Partner Churches, the Supermarkets (Woolworths in Kew, Balwyn, Camberwell, and Middle Camberwell; Coles in Balwyn North and Glenferrie Rd), the St Hilary’s Network staff, Rotary Balwyn (for their generous financial assistance), Budget Rentals (for donating the trucks), the truck drivers, Girl Guides Kew (for their help sorting food), Carey Grammar (for sorting through all our bags and materials before and after the Drive), Trinity Grammar (for help unloading food), all the individuals who helped at the Supermarkets or who joined groups distributing and collecting from homes, Camberwell Primary School, Tim Smith MP, Archbishop Phillip Freier, the many people who helped in various ways in the planning stages of the Drive, the volunteers who worked so long and hard at St Silas and St Hilary’s sorting food and loading the trucks, and last but certainly not least, the super amazing and incredibly hard working Food Drive Steering Team (without whom none of this would happen!) THANK YOU!
The Food Drive is an amazing opportunity for us to get out into the community and interact with our neighbours. Not only are we helping those in need, we are also demonstrating to our community the love of Jesus and presence of the Kingdom of God. We give God thanks for opening up this opportunity for us, and we pray that all the wonderful interactions we had with the people in Boroondara (and beyond!) would bear eternal fruit.
