We recognise and believe in your good design for marriage to be the lifelong union between a man and a woman, and for marriage to be the vehicle for human flourishing through the begetting of children and the support structure of families.
Yet Lord, we acknowledge the complex issues regarding sexuality in our age.
We pray for the postal survey. We pray that you will give to each of us wisdom, compassion and steadfastness as we participate.
We give thanks that we live in a democratic country and for the privilege and responsibility of being asked to express our opinion on this matter.
We know that the very public discussion of same sex marriage causes tensions within our society and we pray our own discussions with others in this space will be characterized by your grace, truth and love. We commit to respecting others who may have different views to our own and we pray for their respect too. We pray that our conversations will lead to deeper relationships of mutual respect.
Regardless of the outcome of the survey, we look to the future and pray that we your people will be lawfully able to continue to practice our faith, and to worship you and to teach your ways in our churches, our schools, and in our families.
Father in your hands are the destinies of this and every nation and we trust in your sovereignty and grace.
We pray all this in the name of our Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ.
